Family Winter Reading Program

Reading Wonderland

December 1, 2011 - January 31, 2012

Pick up a themed bookmark at the library or Discovery Bus and keep track of the number of books or minutes read. Each bookmark is worth 10 books or 100 minutes of reading time. Customers may fill in as many bookmarks as they like. At the end of the program, each library location will host a winter reading program party and offer prize drawings.

Valerie is also donating free refurbished bicycles from her and her husband's Carmel Cyclery Bicycle Shop to be given away during the prize drawing. The Reading Wonderland Family Winter Reading Program, as well as the parties for each location, are sponsored by the Friends of the Library.

 

Read To Me

Family Literacy Program

Mondays, 6 pm

January 9, 16, 23 & 30

For ages birth through grade 5

Registration is required.

 

This four-week reading program will feature guest readers, one on one reading time for family members, games, and free snacks. Each child will receive a free book at the end of the program. Americorps member Becky Bujwid, with Read Jackson County, is coordinating this program in cooperation with the library.

 

Weekend Builders

Saturdays, 1-3 pm

February 11, March 3, April 14 & May 12

Open to all ages

Spend a Saturday afternoon building with Legos and other building blocks. Donations of new and gently used Legos and building blocks may be dropped off at any Jackson County Public Library location.

 

Dr. Seuss Day

Monday, February 27 through Friday, March 2

9 am-Noon and 3-6 pm daily

Seymour Library

Open to all ages

This year, Dr. Seuss Day (aka Read Across America Day) is Friday, March 2. The library will celebrate all week long by offering drop-in activities daily from 9 am-noon and 3-6 pm Monday, February 27, through Friday, March 2, at the Seymour Library. Regularly scheduled storytimes and crafts will also feature Dr. Seuss themed activities.

 

Teen Tech Week- March 5-9

Geek Out @your library

Teens in grades 5-12 may stop by the Kidz Korner March 6-8, from 4-6 pm to participate in Teen Tech Week themed activities.

 

National Library Week- April 8-14, 2012

You Belong @your library

Bookmark Contest

Kick off the National Library Week celebration early by participating in the library's annual bookmark contest. Everyone, ages 3 and up, may create a bookmark focusing on this year's National Library Week theme "You Belong @ Your Library!"

 

Age categories are: preschool, grades K-12 and adults. One winner from each age level or grade will be chosen. Winners will receive a prize and have their bookmark design reproduced and circulated throughout the county library system during National Library Week, April 8-14.

 

Entry forms are available at all library locations starting Monday, February 6. All entries must be returned to a Jackson County Public Library location by Tuesday, March 20.

 

Bookmark Craft

Open to all ages

The library will offer a free drop-in bookmark craft in honor of National Library Week.

 

Fancy Nancy Mother's Day Tea Party

Monday, May 7

6 pm

Seymour Library

Open to all ages

Registration is required.

Children are welcome to bring their mother, grandmother or caregiver to the tea party to celebrate Mother's Day. Dressing up "fancy" is encouraged, but not required.

 

Ongoing Library Chess Club

Open to All Ages-Drop In & Enjoy!

Mondays, 4-8 pm

Check out chess games at the Information Desk upstairs.

Play at tables near New Books upstairs.

 

Whether you're just learning to play chess or have been playing for years, stop by the library on Monday evenings for casual games with players of all ages.

 

Ongoing Yu-Gi-Oh! Card Club

Open to All Ages-Drop In & Enjoy!

Tuesdays and Fridays, 3-6 pm

Seymour Library

Yu-Gi-Oh! Card Club meets at the Seymour Library every Tuesday and Friday from 3-6 pm. Club members meet upstairs at reserved tables in front of the Administration Suite. All ages are welcome to attend. Participants may bring their Yu-Gi-Oh! cards and duel with other Yu-Gi-Oh! fans.
