The Get a Clue @ Your Library summer reading program is designed to encourage reading during the summer and is open to all ages from newborn to adult. ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST SIGN UP IN PERSON at one of the Jackson County Public Library locations. CHILDREN MUST BE PRESENT TO SIGN UP FOR THE READING PROGRAM. Seymour customers will sign up and receive prizes in the library's Kidz Korner.
Only time spent reading after signing up from May 21 until July 21 will count towards the reading program. All materials used must come from the Seymour, Crothersville, or Medora libraries or the Bookmobile. Books, books on tape or CD, audio kits, magazines, comic books, and graphic novels may be used.
All participants will receive a reading record to be taken home. Participants will keep track of the number of BOOKS that they read. Readers must initial the colored squares on the inside of the reading record for each book read AND write the TITLE of the book on the space provided on the back of the reading record. Children ages 0-10 must have their reading record initialed by an adult.
Participants reading books with more than 100 pages may count every 100 pages as a book, but must write the TITLE and the NUMBER OF PAGES on the back of the reading record. For example, a book with 225 pages would equal 2 books on the reading record. Readers may not "bank" pages to add to other books. The extra 25 pages from the example above CANNOT be added to another book with 190 pages to equal two books.
Participants are encouraged to read books at or above their reading level. Children are encouraged to read on their own; however, parents, older siblings, or other caregivers may assist them in their reading. Every 5 books read to a child equals 1 book on the "reader's" reading record. For example: A caregiver or older sibling that reads 25 books to a child may mark off 5 books read on their own reading record. Participants may not mark more than five spaces on their reading record for reading books to a child.
Summer reading program participants are awarded prizes for every 5 books read and may earn a maximum of 5 prizes for reading 25 books. Participants may choose a different prize from the summer reading program treasure chest after each 5 books read or all prizes may be claimed after all 25 books have been read. Participants MAY NOT choose the same prize twice. Prizes will be awarded and documented at the library or Bookmobile as they are received. Quantities are limited for some prizes and the library reserves the right to substitute prizes due to availability.
The last day to register for the program and collect prizes is July 21.
Participants, ages 0-10, are eligible to enter their name in a grand prize drawing to be held at the end of the program. Entry slips are available at the summer reading program prize table or desk. Adults and teens, ages 11 and up, may register for weekly prizes and a grand prize drawing each time they check out materials from the library. Staff members will provide adult and teen customers with drawing slips at the check out desk. Please only one entry per day.
