Teen Scene Programs and Events

Seymour Library Teen Advisory Group

The Seymour Library's Teen Advisory Group is for students in grades 5-12. TAG offers a variety of free afterschool activities for teens. Free refreshments are provided at all meetings. The activities for each Tuesday are listed below:

 

First Tuesday of the month: TAG Monthly Meeting- Teens will help plan special teen programs at the library.

 

Second Tuesday of the month: Tone-up Tuesdays- Exercise with fellow teens and learn how to tone up and stay fit. Exercise books and DVD's will be available for teens to check out.

 

Third Tuesday of the month: Terrific Teen Reads- Teens will tell about a book they are reading or have read. Learn about new teen books the library has to offer.

 

Fourth Tuesday of the month: Tech Tuesdays- Teens will share funny online video clips, favorite websites, tips for using technology and use library netbooks.

 

Fifth Tuesday of the month: Take Your Pick Tuesdays- Teens can choose to play games, use netbooks, or chat with friends.

Family Winter Reading Program

The Seymour, Crothersville and Medora libraries and the Discovery Bus will offer a free family winter reading program for all ages December 1, 2011-January 31, 2012. Customers will pick up a themed bookmark at the library or Discovery Bus and keep track of the number of books or minutes read. Each bookmark is worth 10 books or 100 minutes of reading time. Customers may fill in as many bookmarks as they like. At the end of the program, each library location will host a winter reading program party and offer prize drawings. Seymour library's winter reading program party will be held Tuesday, January 31 at 6 pm.

Teen Tech Week- March 5-9

Geek Out @your library

Teens in grades 5-12 may stop by the Kidz Korner March 6-8, from 4-6 pm to participate in Teen Tech Week themed activities.

 

Hunger Games Party

Tuesday, March 20

4 pm

Open to grades 5-12

Prepare for the release of the Hunger Games movie by participating in free themed games, crafts, and trivia. Participants may also win a free Hunger Games book. Free refreshments will be served.

 

National Library Week- April 8-14, 2012

You Belong @your library

Bookmark Contest

Kick off the National Library Week celebration early by participating in the library's annual bookmark contest. Everyone, ages 3 and up, may create a bookmark focusing on this year's National Library Week theme "You Belong @ Your Library!"

 

Age categories are: preschool, grades K-12 and adults. One winner from each age level or grade will be chosen. Winners will receive a prize and have their bookmark design reproduced and circulated throughout the county library system during National Library Week, April 8-14.

 

Entry forms are available at all library locations starting Monday, February 6. All entries must be returned to a Jackson County Public Library location by Tuesday, March 20.

 

National Library Worker's Day

Teen Advisory Group members will host a special party to thank library workers from the Jackson County Public Library and from surrounding school libraries for all of their hard work.

 

Bookmark Craft

Thursday, April 12

Open to all ages

The library will offer a free drop-in bookmark craft in honor of National Library Week.

 

The Library Chess Club

Every Monday 4-8 pm unless Seymour Library is closed.

Ongoing Yu-Gi-Oh! Card Club

Open to All Ages-Drop In & Enjoy!

Tuesdays and Fridays, 3-6 pm

Seymour Library

Yu-Gi-Oh! Card Club meets at the Seymour Library every Tuesday and Friday from 3-6 pm. Club members meet upstairs at reserved tables in front of the Administration Suite. All ages are welcome to attend. Participants may bring their Yu-Gi-Oh! cards and duel with other Yu-Gi-Oh! fans.
